Black Panther European Premiere

I have never known such fevered pitch for a movie.  I’ve been excited, calm, exhilarated, nervous you name it.  I went along to the Black Panther Premiere on Thursday evening… and I can’t even!!!  Just go and see it.

Angela Bassett, with Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, the UK’s Daniel Kaluuya, Forest Whitaker, just put down a performance and a half. Many of the predominantly black cast were in attendance at the Eventim Apollo, Hammermsith, with the film being praised for its cultural importance as well as maintaining the studio’s reputation for blockbuster action.

Why is this movie so important?

Black Panther already feels different from all other movies. The director (Coogan) set out to do something with the modern black superhero in a way that’s never been done before: making them respectable, imaginative and powerful. The Afro-punk styling, the unapologetic black swag, the powerful telling of the tale from a new perspective – creates a whole new paradigm for a black superhero. The trailers point to a new direction for depicting not only black superheroes, but also how we imagine our heroes. He’s not the comic relief. He’s not a sidekick or born out of dire circumstances. His story of legacy and royalty is very very different than we tend to imagine most black superheroes – and black superhero movies.

I’m not going to give spoilers… you MUST watch this movie. You will leave empowered, enriched and enlightened. Now I’m SO excited to share the European premiere with you…

The film is regal, it’s royal and it just needs to be seen and more than anything needs to be understood.  I totally understand why there has been a bit of a backlash.  When the same images have been viewed for decades and something “different” comes along it upsets the apple cart.  I totally understand and haven’t taken any negative feedback because it’s a black film to heart.  I say put your thoughts aside and go and see the film with an open mind, and open your mind even further. Are you excited to see it? Let’s chat about it on Facebook  Twitter and Instagram.

Let’s talk about it!
