Nubian Skin’s Africa Collection – Moroccan Nights Collection

What do you do when you have cornered the market for nude underwear for the woman of colour to the point that Beyonce’s team has your details in their little black book?

When we got that email for more bras and panties for the Grammys #beyhive #grammys

You go on to continue to create beautiful products that speak to the woman of African descent. Ade Hassan, the founder of Nubian Skin (whose products I have reviewed here), announced the arrival of the latest addition to the company’s offering, The Africa Collection.

To debut, the brand presents ‘Moroccan Nights’, a limited edition, luxury lingerie and sleepwear collection that is made in Africa.

Inspired by the midnight sky and shadows of a balmy Moroccan night, the Moroccan Nights collection conjures up the warmth and sensuality of Marrakesh.

The creation of this collection was rooted in Ade’s continual mission to redefine the representation of the woman of colour.

Nubian Skin’s founding mission has been to “redefine nude” and with this collection, the brand wants to challenge the way Africa is seen in the mainstream. Ade states:

The collections is modelled by Laurence Sessou who also goes by the name of Moniasse’. The French born model’s roots hail from the West African Republic of Benin and her distinctive body markings were achieved by the process of ‘scarification’.

Look back only to look at what you’ve achieved… I really enjoyed shooting for @nubianskin Photographer: @paulcreativ MUA: @chanelambrose Creative director: @itsadehassan #beforehaircut #nubianskin #morrocannights #lookbook #scarification

The imagery for the lookbook and the campaign is exquisite. Check out the behind the scene activity during the shoot:

(Did you spy that Moniasse’s head wrap was made from the lace used in the original nude collections? Clever!)

I attended the official launch party for the collection at the end of last month. It was held in the opulent setting of Victorian Bath House – where the shoot for the Moroccan Nights campaign took place. Bloggers, press and friends of the brand gathered to celebrate this next stage of Nubian Skin’s development and it was a pleasure to be there to witness this black owned business continue to take positive strides
