Courage for Life

Chalk Board

towerSometimes, there are no words. It feels like there has been an onslaught of tragedy in all that has happened across London and other big cities, what says the ongoing struggles in some countries. We join our hands, wishing for togetherness, peace and unity. We also wish for the courage to still be able to live our lives to the fullest each and every day, without allowing fear to take over.

Remember when we were younger and we couldn’t wait to get onto the latest rollercoaster in Thorpe Park, Chessington Zoo or Alton Towers, despite the long queues and sometimes long journey to get there. It was the thrill of the unknown, the excitement, almost risk that it took to go on the rides and the chatting about it afterwards! Then we get older and somehow our bodies and/or minds cannot take it anymore, for some of us anyway! Maybe we know too much, maybe we take fewer risks than when we were younger, maybe we are all too aware of what could go wrong? Is it that we have been there, done that, worn the t-shirt, and the t-shirt can’t fit anymore!? Or is it age, wisdom, fear or all of the above?

The high levels of anxiety, in general, used to be the prerogative of mature people but with all that is going on, is fear of life or what could happen in life, getting younger? Youth should be a time of fearlessness, yes with the normal angst of ‘does my bum look big in this, does he fancy me?’ but they should still be able to wear high heels and go out, travel and have fun.

It is hard to have some conversations, especially when we cannot fathom life ourselves. However, maybe we should turn the talks over to no matter what, let’s all push through, feel the fear and do it anyway. Push through the fear of not waking up in the morning or the fear of waking up; the fear of job loss; feeling pain; not being able to pay the bills; being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Let’s push through the level of angst in big cities and big spaces, out with the mobile, in with connecting with your surroundings, see, feel, hear, enjoy (but yes, of course, stay vigilant).

Tomorrow is not promised but there is no point in worrying about it today, otherwise, we lose precious time with ourselves and our loved ones. This became all too apparent when someone I know had been married for only a year, had a health scare, only to end up having brain surgery. The main thing that mattered was that family turned up, no matter how fractious they may have been.

Beautiful Day

Then we realise again, that the only thing that really matters and that we really need to hold on to is faith, love and health. When all else is stripped away, that is what matters. That is what keeps us going.

So let’s talk to each other, love each other, help each other, forgive each other, forgive ourselves, be love, be compassionate, be brave, be bold, live life to the fullest each and every day. Savour the moments, feel the laughter, see the sun, see each other, be thankful, be blessed, replace anxiety with music, love, laughter, hugs, smiles, togetherness. Let’s breathe deeply….let out the angst, drop those shoulders…let in love…and have courage for life.
