Showbiz update: Hollywood’s Walk of Fame is to get new stars and classic music quiz shows are to make a comeback. Plus a chance to join Robert Pattinson at a film screening. Jenny Priestley brings us this week’s latest.
From prison guard to chart topper
Former X Factor winner Sam Bailey is to release her memoirs. She’s signed a deal to write the book that will detail her rise from being a prison guard to winning the show and topping both the singles and album charts. No word yet on release date but I suspect we’ll see it around Christmas.
Mary Poppins writer introduces us to Aunt Sass
Meanwhile never-before-released books by Mary Poppins creator P L Travers are to be released in the UK. The books were written by the late Travers for friends in the 1940s. The first release will be Aunt Sass: Christmas Stories which is thought to be about Travers’ great aunt who was the inspiration for the Practically Perfect Mary. Aunt Sass will be out in November.
Hollywood’s Walk of Fame gets new stars
What do Daniel Radcliffe, Sofia Vergara, Snoopy and Kool and the Gang have in common? They’re among the celebs who’ll be receiving stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2015. Other honourees include Will Ferrell, Jim Parsons, Pharrell Williams and Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson.
Jodie Prenger is to star in a new musical tour of Calamity Jane. She’ll be joined in the show by former Emmerdale actor Tom Lister, who played Carl King on the soap. The tour starts at the Watermill Theatre in Newbury on July 17 before heading around the country.
Classic music quiz show makes a comeback
Do you remember Name That Tune? Well the classic TV music game show could be on its way back. ITV has commissioned a 60-minute pilot which could turn into a brand new series. There are also rumours of a return for Stars In The Eyes with Harry Hill as host. ITV have confirmed they’re in talks with Harry but nothing’s been confirmed yet.
Reasons to join the Netflix crowd
If like me you haven’t yet invested in Netflix here are some reasons you might soon be changing your mind. First, chat show host Chelsea Handler has signed a deal to launch a new show for the Internet-video service that will debut in 2016. Plus, Netflix has given the green light to a new scifi series from Andy and Lana Wachowski. Sense8 is about eight people around the world who are connected by telepathy. Former Doctor Who star Freema Agyeman, Daryl Hannah and Naveen Andrews are among the cast.
New projects for Rosario Dawson and David Tennant
Rosario Dawson is joining the cast of the new Daredevil TV series which is being made by, you guessed it, Netflix. She joins Brit Charlie Cox who will play Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the show. And finally in this week’s episode of ‘Netflix News’ Martin Sheen has joined the cast of new comedy, Grace and Frankie. Sheen will play Robert, the husband of Jane Fonda’s character Grace. Lily Tomlin will play Frankie.
David Tennant’s new film has had its UK release date confirmed. What We Did On Our Holiday will be in cinemas on September 26. The film is written by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkins, the creators of Outnumbered, and follows a family who travel to Scotland to celebrate their grandfather’s birthday. It also stars Rosamund Pike, Ben Miller and Billy Connolly.
Join Robert Pattinson at a film screening
Robert Pattinson will be in London on August 6 to attend a special screening of s new film The Rover alongside co-star Guy Pearce. The screening takes place at the BFI Southbank and tickets go on sale on July 8.
