Jamie Foxx signs on for Sleepless Nights…

…Beveley Knight gets ready to discuss Memphis at the Apple Store and the latest news from the Oscars. Plus more Entertainment News from Jenny Priestley.

Want to see Beverley Knight discussing her role in musical Memphis? She’ll be at the Apple Store on Regent Street on Friday February 6 at 4.30pm. She’ll be joined by co-star Killian Donnelly to talk about the show. Knight has just extended her run in the musical until July 2015. A cast recording of the show is available to download now and a CD will be available from February 9.

The Smiths

will smithWill Smith’s son Jaden is filming a new pilot for American TV. Jaden will appear alongside Maya Rudolph in Brothers In Atlanta, a comedy show for HBO. They won’t be the show’s lead actors, but are appearing as guest stars. If the pilot gets picked up they’ll appear as recurring characters.

Meanwhile Will’s new film is aiming at a run for the 2016 Oscars. Concussion has had its US release date confirmed as Christmas Day – putting it right in the race for the Academy Awards. The  film is about Dr Bennet Omalu who first discovered how life-threatening concussions are in professional athletes.

Diana Ross is heading to Vegas. The iconic singer will begin a mini-residency at the Venetian from April 1. There are also rumours Mariah’s Carey, Lionel Richie and Janet Jackson could be on their way to Vegas later this year.

Sir Terry Wogan is turning author and will publish a collection of short stories this autumn. Apparently ‘his well-observed stories convey the warmth, humour and poignancy that the British public have come to associate with Sir Terry’, at least that’s what the publishers say. No word yet on a title or exact release date.

Sleeping Tapes

Jeff Bridges has released a brand new album of music – which he says will make you fall asleep! The album is called Sleeping Tapes and is designed to relax the listener and features tracks with titles including Sleeping With My Eyes Closed and Hummmmmm. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie look set to make a third film together. Angelina is going to direct the film, called Africa, which is a Paleo-Archeologist’s battle with ivory poachers and is hoping to persuade her husband to star. The couple already have one film in the can, By The Sea, which will be released later this year.

If you heard Angie and I chatting about the Oscars in last week’s podcast them you’ll know I promised you an update in the column. So here it is. Common and John Legend, Rita Ora and Tim McGraw will also perform their nominated songs during the show. Meanwhile the couple who wrote last year’s Best Song winner Let It Go are composing a special song for host Neil Patrick Harris to perform during a social musical sequence titled Moving Pictures. And NPH will appear on an episode of Inside The Actors Studio on February 12.


Before the Oscars there’s the BAFTAs on February 8.

As always there will be plenty of events happening before Sunday’s awards show, including the inaugural BAFTA Film Gala Dinner on Thursday. BAFTA supporters confirmed to attend include Andy Serkis, Emilia Fox, Henry Cavill, Imelda Staunton, Joanna Lumley, Miranda Hart, Miranda Richardson, Natalie Dormer, Natasha McElhone, Olivia Colman, Simon Pegg and Tom Hiddleston.

Nick Jonas is the latest addition to Ryan Murphy’s big new drama series Scream Queens. The cast for this show is just incredible: Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer and Joe Manganiello. Meanwhile Jonas will be in London later this month to promote his music career. He’ll perform at the venue alongside Kelly Clarkson on February 14.

Eddie Murphy says he’s going to return to Saturday Night Live to celebrate the show’s 40th anniversary. He’s expected to make his first appearance on the show in 30 years on February 15. SNL will be celebrating its milestone with a three-hour show that night.

Jamie Foxx and Michelle Monaghan have signed on to star in action-thriller Sleepless Night. The film is about a corrupt Las Vegas cop whose son is kidnapped by mobsters. No word yet on when filming will begin.
