Katy Perry, Idris Elba, will.i.am and Nicole Scherzinger are among the stars performing on a new charity cover of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’. It’s been created by UNICEF and is aiming to raise awareness of children’s rights. The single also feature Bjorn from Abba, Adam Lambert and Craig David.

Taylor

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran have been announced as the star performers at this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. For the first time in its history, the event is being staged in London. The Show takes place on December 2 at Earls Court Arena and will be broadcasted in the US on December 9.

Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith is to star in a new zombie action thriller called Patient Zero. He will co-star alongside Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer in the film which takes place in a post-outbreak zombie apocalypse and follows one man who has the unique ability to speak with the undead and who hopes to use his gift to discover a cure for the plague and his infected wife.

David Walliams will attend a special screening of his new BBC adaptation at the BFI Southbank on December 14. The one-off special is based on Walliams’ book The Boy in the Dress. It tells the story of 12-year-old Dennis who is an ordinary boy, who lives in an ordinary town – but he feels different. A chance view of a fashion magazine introduces him to a whole new world of colour and creativity, but can a boy wear a dress, and what will the Headmaster, his Dad, and his friends think if they find out? The cast includes Jennifer Saunders, Tim McInnerny, Meera Syal, James Buckley, David Walliams and Kate Moss.

Billy Joel will break the record for the most performances at New York’s Madison Square Gardens next summer. His gig on July 1 will be his 65th performance at the world famous venue, beating current holder Elton John.

Martin Freeman is in talks to co-star alongside Tina Fey in the comedy Taliban Shuffle. The film stars Fey as real life journalist Kim Barker who is posted to Kabul, and follows her attempts to do her job whilst also dealing with bouts of violence and what’s described as “the promiscuous war-correspondent culture”. Freeman will play Fey’s unexpected love interest, a dedicated Scottish photojournalist. Margot Robbie is expected to play one of Fey’s rivals.

Michael Buble

Michael Buble

Michael Buble appeared on Barbra Streisand’s recent album Partners and now she’s repaying the favour by performing on his annual Christmas TV show. The one hour special, Michael Buble’s Christmas in New York, will also feature Ariana Grande, Miss Piggy and the famous Rockettes. The show airs in the US on NBC on December 17. I hope one of the UK broadcasters will show it too.

The brilliant Emma Thompson will receive the Richard Harris Award at this year’s British Independent Film Awards. The award recognises outstanding contribution to British film by an actor.  Previous winners include John Hurt, Bob Hoskins, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ralph Fiennes and Julie Walters. Thompson will receive the accolade at the BIFA ceremony in London on December 7.

Jimmy Fallon’s giving his epic Lip Sync battles their own show. Fallon’s joining forces with John Krasinski and Stephen Merchant to executive produce the show which will air on US network Spike TV – all three are expected to appear on the show at some point. If you’ve never seen one of the battles they’re pretty awesome, the best are the ones Fallon did with Emma Stone or with The Voice mentors Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton.

Britain’s Got Talent winners Ashleigh & Pudsey will star in their very first live panto broadcast next month. The duo are staring in Dick Whittington alongside Brenda Edwards. The production will be shown in select cinemas around the country on December 7.

Movie Trailers

This week’s clips include a new mini-trailer for Birdman which could well see Michael Keaton scoring an Oscar nomination. He plays an actor who once starred in a superhero franchise and is now trying to resurrect his career by directing and starring in a play on Broadway. It’s a fantastic performance by Keaton, the film’s out on January 1:

And there’s another new clip for Paddington which is finally in cinemas this week. It’s called Meet The Browns:

I’ve now seen the film and it’s an absolute joy! I grew up watching the BBC adaptation of Michael Bond’s stories and I used to absolutely love it. The new film stays true to Bond’s stories – don’t worry about the silly news stories about innuendo, I think it will pass right over the kids heads. I think Paddington is one of my favourite films, an utter joy from start to finish and with loads of appeal for kids and adults alike. I can’t recommend it enough!
