Good news for Kylie fans – she’s getting back in front of the camera, this time in a new disaster movie (which we’re sure will be a success!) Plus, the latest from the stars of the film Bridesmaids, Oprah and why Project Runway is flying the flag for plus size models. Jenny Priestley has the latest showbiz news.
Project Runway flies flag for plus size
Project Runway mentor Tim Gunn has revealed he would love the show to feature more designs for larger women. “I would like to do a season of ‘Project Runway’ where every model is larger than a size 12 (UK size 14)” Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter. “There are women who are larger than the 12, and then there are women who are petite. And most designers that I talk to have absolutely no interest in addressing either of those populations, which I find repugnant,” said Gunn.
Bridesmaids stars get busy!
Kirsten Wiig is heading behind the camera to make her directorial debut with a new film she’s written with Annie Mumulo, her co-writer on Bridesmaids. The new film will follow two best friends ‘in over their heads and out of their depths’. The pair will star as the lead characters.
Meanwhile Wiig’s Bridesmaids co-star is joining Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in their new comedy about two grown sisters who decide to throw one last huge party in their parents’ house before it’s sold. The Nest will also feature James Brolin.
And in yet more Bridesmaids related news, Melissa McCarthy will be planting her hands and feet in concrete in Hollywood next month. She’s taking part in the ceremony at the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in July 1, the day after the LA premiere of her new film Tammy.
Fab Four in eight-part drama
US TV network NBC is planning to make an ‘event series’ about The Beatles. It’ll be an eight-part drama charting the rise of the Fab Four (I can’t write ‘and fall’ as they arguably never did). The show is being created by Michael Hirst who previously created The Tudors. No word yet on who’ll be playing John, Paul, George or Ringo.
Kylie back on the big screen
Kylie Minogue is resurrecting her acting career by working with Dwayne The Rock Johnson. She’s joining the action star in disaster flick, San Andreas. As I’m sure you’ve guessed, the plot follows a huge earthquake in California. We don’t know how big Kylie’s role will be yet but the film’s out next summer.
Keanu for courtroom drama
Keanu Reeves is to replace Daniel Craig in courtroom drama The Whole Truth. Reeves will play a lawyer defending his client who is accused of murdering his wealthy father. The cast also includes Renée Zellweger and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (currently starring in Belle). Filming begins next month.
Oprah joins Selma cast
If you’ve been reading this column for a whole you’ll know we’re really excited about the new MLK drama, Selma. The film’s being produced by Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt and will star David Oyelowo as Dr King. Well somewhat unsurprisingly Oprah has now joined the team who’ll be appearing in front of the camera, taking on the role of Annie Lee Cooper, an elderly woman who tried to register to vote and was turned away by the local sheriff. Filming’s happening right now and it should be in cinemas next year.
Kerry Washington and Robin Thicke join line-up at BET Awards
Chris Rock is hosting the annual awards show which takes place at the Nokia Theatre in LA in June 29. Other stars due to attend include Pharrell Williams, Jennifer Hudson, usher and Lionel Richie.
