Sshh! Mariah’s planning a secret album

Showbiz update: Jenny Priestley brings us the latest news from the world of showbiz with Mariah Carey’s secret album, the return of Mowgli and friends, plus how Marilyn Monroe is set to grace the silver screen once more.

Mariah’s secret album

Mariah Carey has announced plans to release a secret album. No more details have been released so far but it is expected to be released digitally soon. Apparently she’s decided to reveal the album’s title and track listing at the same time as the music. This will be Mariah’s 14th album and her first since 2009.

Smokey and the Bandit star honoured in Hollywood

Sally Field is being honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Oscar winner, currently in cinemas in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will receive the accolade on May 5.

The Jungle Book: remake of the Disney classic on the way

Lupita N’yongo and Scarlett Johansson are being lined up for roles in Disney’s new version of The Jungle Book. Johansson would voice the character of Kaa, a python who hypnotises and eats animals. Nyong’o would play Rakcha, the wolf who adopts Mowgli. Idris Elba is also expected to play Shere Khan in the film which is being directed by Jon Favreau.

Scandal: season 4

Sad news for Scandal fans: Columbus Short who plays Harrison won’t be back for season four. I’ll try not to give away too much for those who haven’t seen the end of season three but it didn’t look good for Harrison. Short also has some issues in his personal life to deal with.

Marilyn Monroe to return to the silver screen

Oscar-nominee Jessica Chastain is expected to play Marilyn Monroe in a new film about the screen legend’s life. Blonde has been in the works for a few years with Naomi Watts previously attached (I suspect she’s had enough of playing iconic blondes after Diana’s critical bashing).

How I met Your Mother spin off

Meg Ryan is joining the cast of the How I Met Your Mother spin-off, we’ll sort of. She’ll be providing the voice of the older mother in the show. Her character Sally will be played in the flashbacks by Greta Gerwig.

The return of Lenny Kravitz

Lenny Kravitz is returning to music with a new album due out in September. Kravitz has recently been concentrating on his acting career with roles in The Hunger Games and Lee Daniels’ The Butler. But he’s announced the new album, Strut, will be out on September 23.
