Showbiz update: Jenny Priestley brings us the latest news from the world of showbiz with Michelle Obama’s latest TV appearance, Gwen Stefani’s new voice, plus news of the third series of Mr Selfridge.

Michelle Obama’s TV career continues to blossom

Michelle Obama’s already appeared on numerous US TV shows from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to Nickelodeon’s iCarly and now she’s adding another one to the growing list. The First Lady will appear in an episode of drama series Nashville next month. The episode will feature a fundraising event hosted by Connie Britton’s character. The episode will air in the US on May 7.

Glee star is an inspiration

Glee star Amber Riley is to be presented with the GirlPower Children’s Inspiration Award at an event in Los Angeles next month. The award is presented to women who are viewed as inspirations. The ceremony takes place on May 22.

The Great British Book-Off

Another star from The Great British Bake-Off has signed a publishing deal. Holly Bell, who reached the final three in the last series, will release Recipes From a Normal Mum in July. The book is based on Bell’s blog of the same name.

New faces for Mr Selfridge

Filming has just begun on the third series of ITV drama Mr Selfridge with some well-known faces joining the cast. Zoe Wanamaker joins the show as the trouble-making Russian princess, Marie de Bolotoff whose son marries Harry’s eldest daughter Rosalie. Meanwhile the roles of Rosalie and her sister have been recast with real-life siblings Kara and Hannah Tointon taking over the roles respectively. Former Corrie actress Sacha Parkinson has also been cast as Kitty Hawkins’ ambitious younger sister. The new series should be on our screens in the new year.

Is Gwen Stefani joining the US version of The Voice?

The singer/fashionista and mum-to-three is apparently in talks to join the show in season 7, taking over from Christina Aguilera who will be sitting the season out. Nothing’s been signed just yet so we’ll have to keep an eye on this one.

The Soul Train Heads to Broadway

A new musical based on US TV show Soul Train could be heading to Broadway. The show was a spotlight for R&B, soul and hip-hop acts as well as for the troupe of dancers who performed every week. At the moment the musical is in the early planning stages so there’s no news on cast. Another one to keep an eye on…
