Surviving Easter

Chocolate bunnies, egg dye, cute spring clothes… there are plenty of reasons to be excited for Easter. And as with any holiday, this time can either be a part of the “Things we love” category, or the “Things we dread.”

Easter means different things to different people. We all have our traditions and beliefs. Some celebrate with family and friends and some of us used to go abroad (pre-pandemic) but the one thing we all share and love is that we get at least four days off and lots of Easter eggs! April is Stress Awareness Month and with Covid many still can’t see their families. Stress during the holidays goes together like hot and cross buns.

Ideally your Easter break will be relaxing (or exciting), a time to recharge for you and your family. A perfect time for you and yours to take care of yourselves emotionally, mentally, and physically.

Here are some ways to keep in the calm and decrease the stress-filled overindulgent-too many chocolate eggs- that leaves you feeling guilty and tired.

CHILL!

Avoid filling up your entire week with activities. Give everyone (this includes you too) time to unwind and ease into holiday break.  If you fill all of your time up, then you can’t have any unplanned adventures!

PLAY!

Do something different for a change of pace. Get out of your comfort zone and be an active participant. Join in the fun rather than just watching or supervising. Be silly with your little ones, start a water fight, lay on your back on a blanket and watch the clouds go by. Give your brain a chance to chill.

LET GO!

Remember that you’re in a different routine now. How important is it that all the bedrooms are tidy? Is it really the end of the world that your house be absolutely perfect? You know, if you allow other people in your home to take care of themselves just a tiny bit, you might have time to relax too!

JUST SAY NO…

To excessive chocolate, too much food, to poor behaviour, to rude people. Say YES to kindness, love, and fun.

THINK OUTSIDE THE (CANDY) BOX.

A great Easter gift can be clothes (always a favorite of my daughters), music, concert tickets (for the future), or gift cards. One of my friends told me once that she gave little bags of wild flower seeds with instructions to disperse them on a nearby hill and had hours of fun. Think of crocus or daffodils to plant in a pot or ground.

STRESS-FREE HOLIDAY

Encourage emotional intelligence and stress management for you and your kids. Print out positive statements or affirmations and glue them onto eggs this year or place them inside the plastic ones.

“I am starting fresh.”

“I am growing.”

“I am full of life.”

“I am self-reliant, creative and persistent in whatever I do.”

“I believe in myself and my abilities.”

“I am calm, relaxed and peaceful.”

How are you planning on decreasing stress and having a fun-filled family Easter holiday? Are there any traditions that you absolutely adore? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments below or you can find me on Facebook,Twitter, and Instagram.
