Plaids and tartans are very popular this season, a Ralph Lauren staple, and you can recreate the look without the price tag. West Village is RL’s new season collection and it’s inspired by the eclectic beauty and bohemian spirit of New York City.
Mr Lauren created his home range in the eighties after he and his wife went shopping for bed linen and could only find feminine sheets covered in roses. He felt the need to create a masculine range so he took the oxford fabric they used for the Ralph Lauren shirts, made a pillowcase and sewed buttons down the side and the bedding collection was born. The style can be reflected around the home via accessories and soft furnishings. There is a distinctly American patriotic feel to it too, so you can throw in some stripes and stars, or be a true Brit and use the equally classy Union Jack.
To create this look, start with a neutral backdrop of navy, grey or white. These are masculine colours but can be softened with accessories; grey has been enjoying a revival for the last couple of years and it doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.
