Angie’s Must-See-TV for the Summer – All the “Badass” women!

It’s just about time for Summer telly! And yes, even though we should be outside enjoying the lovely weather, there ARE rainy days and nights to snuggle up on the couch and binge your favourite shows!

This year, it seems that “Badass Women” are taking over the small screen and I’m loving EVERY SINGLE SECOND!

2019 is officially the year of the woman taking over TV – both in front, and behind of the camera. From groundbreaking dramas on taboo subjects, to gripping biopics of formidable women, I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to watch some of these shows…

HBO’s Big Little Lies

The women of Monterey return after that unfortunate incident with Alexander Skarsgard’s abusive husband Perry.

Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Nicole Kidman and Laura Dern reprise their roles in the award-winning HBO drama which will continue to explore friendship, marriage and parenting – and the “malignancy of lies”.

Meryl Streep is also joining the cast, and I cannot wait.

Big Little Lies returns to Sky Atlantic later this year.

Fleabag

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brilliant anti-hero is back, and this time she’s seeking counsel from a priest (Sherlock fans will be happy to see Moriarty) who jolts her into seeing the world in a different way.

Olivia Colman will be reprising her role as evil stepmother, Bill Paterson as hapless Dad, Sian Clifford as cold big sister Claire, and Brett Gelman as creepy brother-in-law Martin.

Plus Kristen Scott Thomas and Killing Eve‘s Fiona Shaw will also be joining the cast.

Fleabag season two returns to BBC3 and Amazon Prime Video NOW, so get to watching!

Riviera

Riviera is a television drama created by Neil Jordan and co-written by Jordan and John Banville. It premiered on Sky Atlantic on 15 June 2017. The series stars Julia Stiles, Lena Olin, Adrian Lester, Iwan Rheon, Dimitri Leonidas and Roxane Duran.

Julia Stiles’ sun-soaked crime thriller Riviera is returning for a third season on Sky Atlantic. The British pay-TV broadcaster has ordered another eight-part run with filming set to start in Autumn 2019.

The third series will see Julia Stiles take the glitz and glamour of the Cote d’Azur around the globe as her character Georgina Clios tries to escape the devastation the Riviera has wrought on her. Stiles will exec produce season three, which will be set in the South of France, Venice and Argentina.

What/If…

Desperate to secure funding for her med tech startup, an idealistic scientist and her husband strike an outrageous deal with a mysterious investor.

Renee Zellweger plays Anne Montgomery, a corporate thought leader famous for urging the public, especially women, to be relentless in pursuit of what they desire.

What/If is meant to be an anthology series, where presumably each season will tackle some different morally murky scenario. And WOW does Renee Zellweger bring the heat! It’s “good BAD tv”, if that makes sense? Camp and cliche but they KNOW it and that’s why it makes my list for Summer’s Must See Badass Women.

And even though it’s not coming out until Christmas…

GAVIN AND STACEY IS COMING BACK!!!

The piece of TV news that had me not just smiling but grinning, was James Corden and Ruth Jones have reunited and have written a Christmas Special for Gavin and Stacey.  Larry Lamb who plays Gavin‘s dad confirmed that he’s read the first page and has been in tears of laughter.  I wanna know how Neil’s doing, Nessa and Smithy’s son, did Gavin and Stacey have a girl or a boy?  Is Doris still entertaining young gentleman folk?  Will we ever find out what happened on that fishing trip with Uncle Bryn and Jason, and is Gwen still making omelettes?

Can’t believe I’m saying this in the beginning of June but…… Bring on Christmas ……… Tidy!!!

The Gavin and Stacey Christmas special trailer and plot have not been announced yet but you’ll be the first to know as soon as I do!

So are you as excited as I am to see all these amazing women? Are there shows that should be on the list? Let me know in the comments or join the conversation this week on my FacebookTwitter, and Instagram.
