I have never known such a fevered pitch for a movie. I’ve been excited, calm, exhilarated, nervous you name it. I went along to the Black Panther Premiere on Thursday evening… and I can’t even!!! Just go and see it.
Angela Bassett, with Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, the UK’s Daniel Kaluuya, Forest Whitaker, just put down a performance and a half. Many of the predominantly black cast were in attendance at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, with the film being praised for its cultural importance as well as maintaining the studio’s reputation for blockbuster action.
Why is this movie so important?
Black Panther is different from all other movies of this genre. The director made the superhero unapologetically black whilst commanding respect. He created a whole new paradigm for the black superhero.
Black Panther was more than just a movie. It was a milestone in black cinema. The screenings themselves became a part of our memories and culture.
Millions of kids were finally able to see themselves as heroes on the big screen. Representation matters. It was ALWAYS so much more than a comic book movie.
I’m not going to give spoilers… you MUST watch this movie. You will leave empowered, enriched and enlightened. Now I’m SO excited to share the European premiere with you…
The excitement!
The anticipation!
The swag crowd!
