Kanye, mental health, and Trump

No one is totally sure what’s going on with Kanye West right now. The rapper, was filmed delivering onstage rants praising Donald Trump during recent shows in California.

His remarks were pretty outrageous and were met with boos. Some even walked out.

“Ya’ll know that I didn’t vote, but if I would have voted, I would have voted Trump,” he said.

The following Monday Kanye cancelled the rest of his Saint Pablo tour. Hours later that same night, he was hospitalized for stress and exhaustion.West spent the night at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for his own safety, the Associated Press reported. Police, without confirming the patient as West, told AP that the officers arrived at a West Hollywood home for a disturbance, and an ambulance took West to the hospital to be placed on psychiatric hold.

Prior to being hospitalized, Kanye West’s public breakdowns and infamous rants have been the butt of jokes and internet mockery. But now? It seems that he is really struggling and it’s no joke. Sadly, it seems that someone is taking advantage of that lapse right now.

Last Tuesday morning, Kanye West entered Trump Tower for a meeting with President-elect Donald Trump. The internet went crazy, since the moment Kanye was spotted outside of the building. The world at large, at least the online world, couldn’t stop speculating. What was this meet up really about? Was he talking about his own presidential bid in 2020? Was he asked to perform at the inauguration?

If that were the whole truth, then it doesn’t sound quite so bad. But unfortunately Trump is not the touchy feely let’s talk about issues type. Matter of fact, most think that this was a publicity stunt to deflect the world’s attention from the insane cabinet members Trump has picked. So what was the meeting of two huge egos at Trump Tower in front of the world’s press all about?

In an interview with French outlet Clique, Legend had some harsh words for the meeting, which he called a “publicity stunt.”

“I don’t think it’s impossible to talk to [Donald Trump] about issues, but I won’t be used as a publicity stunt. I think Kanye was a publicity stunt,” he said. He went on to express frustration and disappointment in the rapper he’s frequently collaborated with over the years. “I’m pretty disappointed with Kanye that he says he would have voted for Trump. I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country. I think the things he’s promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people, and for Kanye to support that message is very disappointing,” he said. When the interviewer asked if Kanye perhaps had something else in mind by meeting with Trump, Legend continued to be dismissive. “Whatever’s in his mind, I disagree with him,” he said.

John Legend, who is in fact signed to Kanye’s label,  put it very succinctly: “a publicity stunt”. But who is using who?
