A world in protest

There is definitely a strange energy surrounding the new President of the United States,  a completely different energy than that which was experienced 8 years ago.

Those with absolutely no political opinion at all have become quite opinionated, tensions seem to be rising quite high, and the fact that the word “tension” is  being used at this time confirms the strain that the American political system is having on us all globally.

You can see it in all the news feeds, on social media. It’s everywhere. The tension and apprehension ascending on the world today. Protests, demonstrations, fund raisers. It’s all coming to a head these next couple days.

An estimated 1 million people plan to demonstrate in all 50 states and 32 countries.

Protest groups organized by activist collective DisruptJ20 are expected to gather at each of the dozen checkpoints that inauguration ticket-holders will have to pass through, each demonstration speaking to a different cause. One will focus on LGBT rights. Another will center on racial justice.

Officials in Washington are preparing for the arrival of a epoch-making number of protesters in the nation’s capital, with about 200,000 people alone expected to participate Saturday in the Women’s March on Washington in the US capitol. In addition to the main protest, over 600 “Sister Marches” organized in solidarity with the march on Washington are set to take place all over the world.

Even here in the UK there’ll be protests.  “What a Joke” is a nationwide comedy festival that will have stand-up comedy performances in five D.C. locations and in cities nationwide — and even here in England. The proceeds will go to the American Civil Liberties Union.

Their biggest joke (and hopefully moneymaker)? They will sell Trump’s signature red hats, but with “Make America Great Again” replaced with “What a Joke.”

The new President was very vocal about changes he wanted to make some of which were quite hard to comprehend, but as his term begins let’s wait and see whether he will be as effective the president as he predicts he will be.
