Let’s talk Barbados!

The beautiful Caribbean island is celebrating its golden year!

On 4051e23d-4342-4fb1-ba68-60ced97ea40cThursday The Barbados Tourist Board produced a beautiful event entitled “A Taste of Barbados”. The event was hosted by our Tourism Team William Griffith, Chief Executive Officer, and Cheryl Carter, Director of Tourism.   Highlights included Literally contributions, Food, Music and of course the future of Tourism on the island. The Mount Gay and Banks Beer were in full swing (but I didn’t swing, however, I did have a few sips of Banks!)

This is a very special year for Bajans all over the world as we are celebrating 50 years of Independence in November. Following the establishment of the first English settlement at Holetown in 1627, Barbados remained a British colony for more than 300 years.

Its independence on November 30, 1966 was marked by the raising of the Barbados national flag and playing the new national anthem for the first time. Ever since, November 30 has been a national holiday.

The celebrations here, however, will begin on 16th July with a pre-Crop Over event.  Details will be available very soon, so please do watch this space. The Tourist Board and myself would love to see you there!

On Saturday 7th May, I will be hosting the annual Miss Barbados UK competition which takes place at the Tabernacle, Powis Square in West London.

Shakira and Damani Hamblin have once again worked tirelessly to put the event together but this isn’t just a beauty contest, each contestant much have a deep knowledge of Barbados and its culture and even needs to be able to utitlise their culinary skills and create authentic Bajan dishes.  The heats have taken place, so the finals will see who will be crowned
