I’m not new to Bobbi Brown, having used her products before (Shimmerbricks, anyone?) but it’s a brand I’ve been meaning to look at in more depth. I’ve liked with the foundations I’ve tried over the years. I also have some lipsticks amongst my stash too.
I popped into the Bobbi Brown Studio in Covent Garden a few weeks ago for a personalised make up lesson. Bobbi Brown offer a range of complimentary lessons, ranging from 10-60 mins and covering everything you need to create great make up looks from the Secret to Perfect Skin to Party Makeup.
Taught by an expertly trained Bobbi Brown makeup artist, each one-on-one lesson begins with a series of questions, followed by step-by-step makeup application. You’re also given a hand-held mirror so you can follow along as application of each product is demonstrated. Each makeup lesson concludes with a personalised Face Chart to help you recreate your new look at home.
There are also exclusive lessons you can have with an Advanced Makeup Artist or Skincare Specialist. These are £30 redeemable against Bobbi Brown products.
I had a play with the Hot Collection, and in particular loved the Art Stick in Hot Pink as I love fuschia lip colours – the brighter, the better. A surprise hit was the Cheek Palette in Berry. At first glance, I didn’t think much of the two pink blush shades on either shade of the deep bronze coloured bronzer, but combined together, they looked amazing on my cheeks and thus began the frantic hunt to track one down before it sold out. More on that later.
Sophie (my MUA) guided me through each application step, taking care to show me how to apply the product properly in order to get the best effect. One of the main problems I have with my makeup, is getting my base to stay put. By midday, I’m shiny and my foundation is sliding off my face. I want my base to look flawless but don’t want it looking caked on.
Next time you’re in Covent Garden, pop in and have a look at the Bobbi Brown Studio. It’s a lovely store, spacious and well laid out with great lighting, perfect to try out and swatch make up to your hearts content!
