How to handle the January Blues

Have the January blues kicked in for you?

Has the feeling of being over bloated dragged you down?  And do you not want to look at the credit card bill?  Chances are you’ve answered “Yes” to one or all of the above. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself press the re-start button!

Yes… I’m going to say the dreaded word… EXERCISE!

Take an early morning walk – the first 15 minutes of the day sets the tone.

You should still perform your fitness routine whenever possible and if you can’t do that, simply walk more, park your car some distance away from the store or just use the stairs!

I find brisk walking much more fun than heading to a proper gym, 6.30am is a great time as well; the morning air is clean and fresh, it’s quiet and with the headphones in I don’t realise how long I’ve been walking. Sometimes I even end up jogging home! Once I do get back home it’s sit ups, crunches and leg raises.

Starting the day off with 30 – 45 minutes of exercise also re-positions my mind, the result being that I flow more positively in the mental arena. It’s also great because it makes me more conscious of the food I eat having started the day off fat burning.

Modify the eating

Remove and/or reduce the sugar.
I’m sticking with lots of fruits and veg and drinking tons of water whilst eliminating bread, pasta, sugar, and alcohol. Read more about how I’m eating clean.

Have you see the Jay-Z/Beyoncé Plant Based Challenge?  Not sure I could go that far!

JAY-Z and Beyoncé are encouraging everyone to take part in the plant-based food revolution.

In an introduction for the new book The Greenprint: Plant-Based Diet, Best Body, Better World, by Marco Borges, Beyoncé’s trainer, the couple open up about how parenthood changed their outlook on life — including the food they eat.

Don’t start the New Year stressed out start it DRIED OUT 🤷🏾‍♀️ it makes such a difference.

More energy

Alcohol can mess with your sleep pattern meaning you spend less time in more restful deep sleep.

After a few days of not drinking, you’ll feel like you can take on the world, making this October the perfect opportunity to kick-start a new fitness regime. And if getting in shape is your goal you might be pleased to have already started to notice some definite changes from not drinking.

Weight loss

Due to their high sugar content many alcoholic drinks are pretty calorific, and regularly adding lots of extra calories on top of your recommended daily intake can make it difficult to lose weight.

Increased productivity

I have to say the thing I like best about not drinking is waking up fresh and feeling great on the weekend.

Saving money

Cutting out expensive rounds at the bar or bottles of wine on your weekly shop could quickly have a positive effect on your bank balance, giving you a bit of extra cash to try a new activity, join the gym or update your Autumn wardrobe.

Improved health and mood

A surprising thing that happened after around one month of no drinking was that I found myself with this amazing mental clarity. I now feel more focused and clear about everything. Now I feel healthier, my liver is working better and my whole system is thriving.

Finances!

Put a strict 3 week financial budget in place – worrying about money that ain’t there anymore isn’t gonna make it miraculously appear, so do some maths!

If you can look at the long term view, budget, plan, prioritise, organise, juggle the household and still have enough for a treat in the sale, then you’re doing pretty well.

We owe it to ourselves and the next generation to be responsible but yes splash out when you can (sometimes even when you can’t) because bills will always be there and there are only two things certain in life. So live, love, laugh, dance and wear that ‘bright purple hat’ but above all…be kind to YOU and yours.
