It’s SUMMER! And when it comes to makeup that means going by the standard of ‘less is more’! Less cakey foundation and products on your face except for… concealer. It’s a must to have a sheer, lightweight concealer that hides dark under-eye circles and covers spots but still has staying power to withstand all the hot weather we’ve been having!
Adele’s makeup artist, Michael Ashton, explains the dilemma to Vogue.
“In warmer weather, you’re likely to sweat more and skin tends to become a little oilier, which calls for a different texture of concealer that still gives a flawless finish without looking too heavy,” says Ashton. “As the temperature increases, my general rule of thumb is that less is more.”
NARS is a foolproof staple that I swear by, as it has a beautiful texture that looks like a second skin, but once it sets, it will withstand even the most balmy of summer days. It’s ranked #1 by Harper’s Bazaar and I totally understand why!
Nars Creamy Concealer is the right consistency, not so thin as not to have any pigmentation, not so thick as to not be blendable and settle into my fine lines-unless I overdo it. I like the colour range. It goes on very smooth and creamy, and almost never goes cakey or flaky on my skin. I’m glad more companies are realising there are so many WoC who buy makeup and are giving us more shades. I’m about an NC30 at present, but get to an NC25 at times and to an NC35 in the height of summer and it matches well and looks very natural. It is buildable, so don’t apply it all at once, wait for it to dry and then dab on a little again.
I had an absolute blast shopping at @NarsLiberty with Holly – the lovely lady helping me in the picture above. As you can see Nars has such a HUGE supply and so many different shades to choose from – it’s really an absolute MUST for your summer look!
My Tips For Summer Concealer
Using concealer can be tricky when the heat causes your attempts at makeup to slide off your face! There are a few simple tips to keep your concealer fresh all day and going the distance:
Shape: Apply it in a ‘v’ shape under your eyes and blend it in using a concealer brush or flat eye shadow brush.
The Powder Trick: Toss the setting spray and opt for a translucent powder instead. Apply over concealer with a small fluffy brush to get all the way into the corners of your eye.
